Cayan Overview Cayan Reviews Cayan Ratings Cayan Pros and Cons Cayan Conclusion Compare

Cayan is a credit card processing company that was known as Merchant Warehouse until 2015. As Merchant Warehouse, the company has been assisting businesses since 1998, and has always had a major focus on staying ahead of emerging technology. Their customer service platform is a cloud-based product called Cayan Genius, which allows businesses to adopt the newest methods of payment faster, to keep up with their clients. Through Cayan’s services, organizations can process payments, use gift cards, and implement loyalty reward programs that help them keep customers coming back.

Cayan serves almost every business type. Retail establishments, e-Commerce businesses, even international businesses can take advantage of Cayan’s services. They provide card processing, mobile payment processing, and virtual terminal capability.

REVIEW

Cayan’s services are on par with many other industry leaders in credit card processing, but their prices are a big selling point. Their prices do vary some depending on the merchant’s size, but the lowest monthly fee is only $4.95, which is one of the lowest starting points in the industry. The standard yearly compliance fees apply, but, while they do require a contract, there is no cancellation fee—meaning that you can treat it as a month-to-month arrangement in effect, without consequence.

Clients can purchase equipment or lease it, but like many other companies, leasing this equipment isn’t always the best idea. Equipment contracts can often be harder to escape and don’t always expire when the service contract does.

Reflecting their focus on the most modern payment options for consumers, Cayan offers many ways to get in touch with customer service. Live chat, email, and phone are all available for merchants to get in touch.

Despite these positive aspects, Cayan doesn’t seem to be a winner among its customers. It has the lowest BBB rating of all the credit card processing names we reviewed, and the most unresolved complaints. Most of these involved hidden fees in the contract and issues with being unable to connect to customer service through either the phone or the live chat option at times.

Since its introduction in 2015, the Genius system has received awards from developers for innovation and customer service. This cloud-based platform can be customized by businesses, and it can all be set up in a matter of minutes with the account representatives that Cayan offers through their call center.

PROS:
  • Cutting edge technology, including an award-winning cloud-based platform
  • Their most basic price is one of the lowest in the industry
  • Plenty of ways to contact customer service
  • Quick application and set-up process, all handled by account representatives
  • No cancellation fee for the required annual contract

CONS:
    • Lower BBB rating than similar competitors
    • Price information for specific packages or services isn’t readily available
    • Customer reviews and BBB complaints indicate hidden fees may be a problem

CONCLUSION

For medium-sized businesses that need the ability to accept payments through the most modern technology, Cayan could be a great option. While their pricing information varies, the fact that they have one of the lowest starting points in the industry suggest that their upper tiers would be equally affordable. While their BBB rating may give the savvy business owner reason to pause, most of the issues reported involve disputes that could have been avoided by a careful reading of the fine print in a contract. Be absolutely sure that you know what fees you’ll be charged before you begin, and you’ll probably find that Cayan’s positives outweighs its negatives. And with no cancellation fee for your contract, you don’t lose anything if you do decide to part ways eventually.
