Fiverr Overview Fiverr Reviews Fiverr Ratings Fiverr Pros and Cons Fiverr Conclusion Freshdesk Website
Fiverr is a major crowdsourcing and freelancing site that built itself around a simple concept – all you need is $5 to get things done. As you might imagine, most of the services offered on the site cost around or a little over that low price, and the services are surprisingly unique. You can get a logo or other design, hire someone to optimize your site, write an about page, create videos and animations, make music, create gifts for any occasion and much more.

Any employer can browse the site and review “gigs” posted by freelancers and request them to work on a project. It takes less than 2 minutes to create an account, no matter what you’re looking for. As an employer, you can post a request, categorize it, add a sub-category and provide a deadline and optional budget.

It’s just as easy for a freelancer or “seller.” You just choose what you’re selling and then connect your social media accounts like LinkedIn or Google+, list your skills, education, and upload projects to your portfolio. To create a “gig,” you have to enter what you will do for the client and the cost. Most people create gigs for $5 but have 3 other packages ranging from standard to premium for more in-depth projects and higher prices.

Fiverr doesn’t have many add on services for extra fees but they charge a 20 percent commission to freelancers and 1 percent on withdrawals over $50, 2 percent if it’s under. Buyers are also charged a processing fee of $0.50 on purchases up to $10 and 5 percent on anything over $10.

Their support system relies on a community forum and helpful articles, but they don’t have an email service or phone number.

REVIEW

Fiverr is one of the highest rated freelancing and outsourcing sites and it’s easy to see why. The design is simple, easy to use, and full of simple graphics. It’s easy to see what each user does, their personality, work history, portfolio, and much more. This site gives freelancers and employers more control – freelancers can sell any service they want and show prices and packages while employers can browse more easily to select a quality freelancer in their price range.

However, there is less control in some ways. Unlike other crowdsourcing sites, there’s no tracking tool to monitor how freelancers use their time, most buyers need to use PayPal, and freelancers are forced to automatically accept jobs they might not have time or want to take. Canceling an order you didn’t want to take in the first place can be even more frustrating because it lowers your rank in Fiverr, damaging your reputation.

Fiverr doesn’t have any annoying gimmicks to pay more, but they make up for it with a hefty commission and withdrawal fees, meaning freelancers make much less than their advertised prices. Freelancers also have to wait 14 days to get paid.

The website has also gotten some negative publicity for the quantity of gigs offering to write fake reviews. Most notably, Forbes reported Amazon was suing freelancers who had written fake reviews through Fiverr. However, Fiverr itself is not implicated, and it seems fair to say anyone using an crowdsourcing site could offer or look for this service independently of Fiverr.

PROS:
  • Easy to search
  • Simple design with lots of organized graphics
  • Easy to browse profiles and see portfolios
  • Variety of services
  • Clear prices

CONS:
      • High 20 percent commission for freelancers
      • Buyers are charged a processing fee
      • Charges on withdrawals
      • Easy to set up and start searching
      • Freelancers have more control over pricing and packages
      • Huge lack of customer support

CONCLUSION

Fiverr charges a lot of money for what it is offering, but if freelancers are bothered by the commission they can always adjust the cost of their services accordingly. For buyers and employers, Fiverr is a gold mine of talent, but Fiverr is more about searching than job posting. If you want someone who is interested to actually apply to a job this isn’t the site for you. You should also take into consideration the fact that Fiverr’s customer support is almost non-existent and their reliance on PayPal. Fiverr has more disadvantages than other outsourcing sites, but it is incredibly unique and the advantages, convenience, and control they offer to both buyers and sellers outweighs the drawbacks.

I used Fiverr for a while. Obviously the price is right for most work. Beware though that most sellers are in countries that English is not the primary language and communication can be a real problem. I had one gig where I paid $75 for some research and the seller charged ahead without a clear understanding. When I disputed the result, the seller refused to redo the work, even going so far as to argue over the meaning of words in the English language. I’ve lived in the US all my life and think I know the language pretty well. When I brought this to the attention of Fiverr, they just told me to try to work it out with the seller. After trying three times, I finally gave up.

+ PROS: Lots to choose from
    - CONS: Support from Fiverr is a joke.
