Like many other sites, Match will help set you up with possible love interests based on how you rate and interact with other users. However, you can also take quizzes and play games to help assess your compatibility.

You can sign up for free, but you won’t be able to contact anyone or really use the site to its full potential. Creating an account involves plugging in basic information about your age and writing about your interests.

You can search for matches by the normal age, distance, ethnicity, etc. but you can also narrow it down even further with some of the following:

• Lifestyle
• Occupation
• Hair-style
• Eye Color

Once you find someone you like, you can send them a message, start a chat conversation, or “wink” at them to let them know they’re interested. Match tracks all your connections, too, and will even let you know whose turn it is to follow up, which removes a little of the mystery.

]If you want to narrow down who can contact you, that’s also an option, sort of. You can filter emails to weed out the ones you know you won’t be interested in. However, if you want to read them, there’s a special filtered folder, but they won’t show notifications or show up with messages from the matches you might be interested in.

Match might be one of the most popular websites, but it isn’t the most user-friendly. Signing up initially is a bit of a nuisance. You can’t really access or see anything about the site without creating a free profile, which takes some time, and even afterward that’ll only give you a feel for the site, you won’t be able to contact anyone.

Another great feature unique to Match is that you can pay a little extra to talk to users over the phone without ever giving out your real number. Match will give you a new number that’ll show up on your potential interest’s caller ID so you can protect your privacy if the match doesn’t work out.

Despite Match’s popularity, or perhaps because of it, their customer service is, well, pretty terrible. They have to provide service to quite a lot of people, true, but that’s no excuse for the over 2,000 complaints to the BBB in the last 3 years. It’s no wonder they have an F rating and their membership was revoked.

When customers are overcharged or have problems, the company is slow to respond, less than understanding, and usually apathetic. Subscriptions are sneaky and renew automatically, even if you just sign up for one or three months. If you forget to cancel, oh well, you’ll have to pay. Trying to cancel even when your subscription is coming to a close seems like a nightmare that might result in extra charges you’re not likely to get back. The worst part is that although Match closes many cases, they hardly ever do so to the benefit of their clients.

As long as you are good about keeping up with deadlines in order to cancel your membership in time, Match might be a good option for you. If you aren’t good at remembering that kind of thing, run away, because you won’t get your money back.

Although navigating Match’s site is sometimes a nuisance, its benefits usually outweigh whatever inconvenience comes from the website and profile setup. Since so many people are using Match, you automatically expand your options and chances of finding someone. Besides, all the great search features can help you narrow it down. Match is a bit more expensive than some other dating sites, but with a good profile and a little luck you won’t have to use it for long.
