Squarespace Overview Squarespace Reviews Squarespace Ratings Squarespace Pros and Cons Squarespace Conclusion Compare
Squarespace is a website building and hosting service that, much like social media darling Facebook, was started out of a dorm room in 2004. Since that humble beginning, the team has grown to over 500 employees, who serve a client base of millions. Their building platform is one of the most modern, updated services in the website building industry. In fact, their services are so beloved, especially by creative freelancers like podcasters, photographers, and artists, that Squarespace has become one of the first brand names cited when discussing website building.

REVIEW

When you are considering building a website, one of the main concerns you have is: Will it look good? After all, a website is a visual interpretation of you, your business, and your outreach to your readers or clients. Squarespace’s big draw is that it looks amazing. The sleek, modern templates are created with powerful visual content and stylish typography in mind. All of their templates are fully responsive for mobile and tablet formats, and what’s more, users report that this feature actually works, unlike many other services whose responsive features result in mangled content.

Their customization is more extensive than many other website builders, allowing you to change fonts, colors, image opacity, page element sizes and spacing, all within the template you chose. Some users did find that moving the “blocks”, or page elements, can be buggy at times, but none of those users reported that this made the builder unusable.

One thing that sets Squarespace apart from many similar services is the lack of a free plan. Their lowest monthly plan is under $10, but for those used to services like Wix or WordPress, the lack of any free option may be a turn off. There is also a conspicuous lack of a third-party widget marketplace; only the widgets that Squarespace offers are available. Finally, while the templates are beautiful and responsive, there aren’t as many templates to choose from as other website builders, and the mobile versions are not easily customized.

Additionally, if the monthly plan for an entire website is more than you want to pay for a simple one-page website, you can pay for what they call a “Cover Page”. This is a single page that includes all the regular features of Squarespace, such as unlimited storage, custom domain, and responsive style, but it will only cost you around $5 per month. As with all of Squarespace’s other services, their customer support is available 24/7 in a variety of formats, and most customer reviews report that it takes less than an hour to receive an email or call back.
