Home Depot is well known for their mega-warehouses filled with home improvements tools, supplies, fixtures, and more. Within the aisles, Home Depot has an extensive carpet and flooring department, with specialists who can answer questions and schedule deliveries and installations.

REVIEW

Home Depot has quickly grown since their first store opened in 1978. The warehouses hold everything the homeowner needs to do a carpet install themselves, and they also provide services that allow consumers to choose how involved they want to be in the process.

Home Depot carries hundreds of styles of carpet, most of which come in a rainbow of colors and patterns. There are many features to choose from, like hypoallergenic, stain resistant, and water repellent. They also have carpets made of a range of materials, such as composite blends, nylon, olefin, polyester, and wool. For an easier install, consumers can choose from different styles of carpet squares. Buyers can also browse a selection of outdoor carpeting. Some of Home Depot’s partner brands for carpet include LifeProof, TrafficMASTER, Platinum Plus Collection, SoftSpring, and Home Decorators Collection.

Buyers who choose to install their own carpets can get their supplies from Home Depot, too. They keep foam, recycled foam, and synthetic fiber carpet padding, along with the tools required to get the job done, like transition strips, tack strips, carpet tape and adhesives, and carpet protectors.

More cautious homeowners can get help from Home Depot before they begin their search, or after picking a carpet. For $35, a Home Depot installer will come to the home to measure. That $35 fee is credited towards the cost of installation if the homeowner decides to use the service. Measure appointments are scheduled in two to three-hour time windows.

When carpet is purchased from Home Depot, it may be wise to include installation. Home Depot offers a lifetime installation warranty and guarantees the lowest total project price. Another perk is Home Depot’s Lifetime Stain Warranty.

Home Depot doesn’t have the best reputation when it comes to independent service professionals and technicians, and they’ve developed a similar reputation among homeowners. Many brands make products specifically for Home Depot, using lesser quality materials to be more affordable to the masses. This lack of quality is noted by many consumers who have purchased carpet from Home Depot and had it installed. They state their carpets suffered from extreme wear and tear and visible seams after only a short time period.

Another complaint that is heard often is the quality of installers. Most of the time, Home Depot uses independent businesses to contract out this work, which can result in a lack of quality control.

Things seem to go downhill fast when a consumer makes complaints, and it’s hard to get them rectified in a timely manner. People stated they waited up to a month for a simple install.

PROS:
  • Variety of affordable options
  • One-stop shop for DIYers
  • Lowest total project price guarantee

CONS:
  • Independent installers may be unreliable and have various levels of experience
  • Low-quality products that don’t last
  • Customer service issues when there’s a problem

CONCLUSION

Home Depot is one of the biggest names in the game. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always come with reliable and trustworthy service, or products to rave about. Home Depot is an easy and affordable solution for a quick fix, but it may end up costing homeowners in the long run, when carpeting needs to be replaced after a short time. The lack of customer support is what makes a purchase from Home Depot risky. Their warranties and guarantees can’t be utilized if the consumer can’t reach someone who can help them.

Good prices and selection. They do not install it themselves though and use independant contractors.

+ PROS: lots to choose from
    - CONS: installed by different company

Home Depot does not stand behind their products. I purchased LifeProof carpet and it snagged three times within the first 60 days of being installed. Purchased and installed by Home Depot. Corporate refuses to do anything for me on this carpet. I wasn’t asking for a refund, I was asking to have it replaced with a different brand. Corporate refuses to stand behind the faulty products they sell.
